This simple route starts at Portitxol beach, stretches to the foot of Palma Cathedral and then back to the base.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Palma, known as La Seu, is a Romanesque Gothic cathedral located in Palma de Mallorca, built on the site of an earlier Arab mosque. Its dimensions are remarkable, it is 120 metres high and 55 metres long. Designed in Catalan Gothic style, but with Northern European influences, it was begun by King James I of Aragon in 1229 and finished in 1601.

Legend has it that in 1229 James I of Aragon, while sailing to the coast of Majorca, was surprised by a storm and promised to build a large church if God saved him. When he arrived safely on the island he had the mosque of Medina Mayurqa demolished and together with the architect Guillem Sagrera designed the splendid cathedral.

La Seu Cathedral is located within the old city of Palma, in the old Roman citadel, between the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the Episcopal Palace. Nearby is the Parc de la Mar and of course the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

It is a beautiful Gothic building with a striking bell tower. Its vast proportions can be seen in the 44-metre high nave, over which rose windows designed by Antoni Gaudi open.

Today, La Seu is one of the most extraordinary monuments in Spain and certainly one of the most spectacular cathedrals in the world, thanks to its location on the breakwater of the old port of Palma.
